AAMI offers the core HTM credentials through the AAMI Credentials Institute (ACI): CBET (Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician), CRES (Certified Radiology Equipment Specialist), CLES (Certified Laboratory Equipment Specialist), CHTM (Certified Healthcare Technology Manager), and the entry-level CABT (Certified Associate in Biomedical Technology). These are the credentials most U.S. employers reference for biomed technicians and HTM managers.
Yes. AAMI is a Tier-1 HTM authority. Founded in 1967, the nonprofit develops the national and international voluntary consensus standards used across medical device design, maintenance, and safety, and it serves as a U.S. representative in international standardization. Its standards are widely cited by regulators and accreditors.
The AAMI Credentials Institute (ACI) maintains and administers AAMI's HTM certifications. ACI's certification programs for CBET, CLES, and CRES are accredited to the ISO/IEC 17024 standard, and exams are delivered through a third-party testing vendor.
Public sources report more than 3,000 combined holders of the CBET, CLES, and CRES credentials. AAMI does not publish precise individual counts for each certification or for CHTM and CABT.
